ACP Journal Club provides critically appraised individual article synopses.

AGRICOLA is a database that has bibliographic records from the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s National Agricultural Library.
There are over 4.8 million citations comprised of journal articles, book chapters, monographs, theses, patents, software, audiovisual materials and technical reports associated with agriculture. AGRICOLA includes all facets of agriculture and allied disciplines, including animal and veterinary sciences, entomology, plant sciences, forestry, aquaculture and fisheries, farming and farming systems, agricultural economics, extension and education, food and human nutrition, agricultural engineering and technology and earth and environmental sciences.
AHFS Consumer Medication Information
AHFS Consumer Medication Information is a trusted source and recognized standard for patient drug information, available in both English and Spanish and updated monthly. AHFS is published by the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists—long recognized as an authority on educating patients about drug use and safety. Some key features are drug information monographs written in lay language for consumers. All patrons have access to NBDE-I, NBDE-II, and NBDHE and board reviews for over 20 specialties such as Internal Medicine, Surgery, and Cardiology, as well as BoardVitals CME modules.

In order to access BoardVitals, patrons must first register for an account using either a @tamhsc.edu, @bcd.tamhsc.edu, @baylorhealth.edu, or @BSWHealth.org emaill address. Texas A&M College of Medicine Students must use their @BSWHealth.org to register through the Baylor Health Sciences Library. Please note, after you register, you will not be able to access the materials until you receive a confirmation email with an acceptance link. Once an account has been created, patrons should sign in to access the BoardVitals modules.

CDSR (Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews)
The Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews (CDSR) is a part of the collection of evidence-based medical databases in the Cochrane Library; it stands as the cornerstone of current evidence-based medical literature and as the gold-standard model for systematic reviews. The database is updated and amended regularly.

Over fifty subject-driven teams of clinical experts locate and analyze hundreds of relevant scientific studies through a rigorous and highly evaluative meta-analysis process. The synthesized evidence is structured into comprehensive topic-based systematic reviews; the strengths and weaknesses of the evidence behind current healthcare practices are appraised. CENTRAL (Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials)
The Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials (CENTRAL) is part of the collection of evidence-based medical databases in the Cochrane Library. It is a bibliographic database that contains the publication details of approx. 500,000 controlled clinical trials (CCTs) pulled primarily from MEDLINE and EMBASE.

Cochrane is the gold-standard for rigorously evaluated and reliable evidence-based medical literature.

CINAHL Complete
CINAHL Complete is the world’s largest source of full text for nursing and allied health journals, and provides full text for more than 1,300 journals indexed in CINAHL. DARE (Database of Abstracts of Reviews of Effects)
The Database of Abstracts of Reviews of Effects (DARE) is a part of the collection of evidence-based medical databases in the Cochrane Library. Systematic reviews regarding health and social care interventions are distilled into structured and value-added evidence-based abstracts with included critical appraisal for bottom-line clinical answers.

DARE, produced by the Centre for Reviews and Dissemination, provides high quality systematic reviews that have not been carried out by The Cochrane Collaboration; as such, it serves as an important counterpart to Cochrane's Database of Systematic Reviews.

The Education Resource Information Center (ERIC) is an authoritative bibliographic database of education material sponsored by the US Department of Education. The resource contains more than 1 million records with full-text access to over 300,000 articles. HTA summarizes medical, social, and economic details of health technology into brief records and structured abstracts. The database covers both completed and ongoing assessments.

HTA, produced by the Centre for Reviews and Dissemination, provides explanatory rather than systematic summaries of the implications and consequences of health technology at all levels of healthcare for the purpose of informing healthcare policy making.

HealthSTAR
OVID HealthSTAR is a comprehensive healthcare delivery information database designed to provide users with data on health technology, services, research, and administration. Literature is culled from the MEDLINE database, the Hospital Literature Index, and journals.

Materials in the electronic resource, both clinical and non-clinical, include patient outcome assessments; research related to health policy, economics and insurance; the efficacy of procedures, programs and services; as well as studies on a variety of other critical healthcare delivery topics.

NORD Rare Disease Database
NORD's Rare Disease Database provides brief introductions to more than 1,200 rare diseases. This is not a comprehensive database since there are nearly 7,000 diseases considered rare in the U.S. New topics are added on a continual basis, with the help of rare disease medical experts.  

If you are seeking information about a rare disease that is not in the database, it is recommended that you contact the Genetic and Rare Diseases Information Center (GARD) at the National Institute of Health.  NIH has the most complete database of rare diseases in the U.S.

Individuals can access two full reports in a 24-hour period.

Nursing Reference Center Plus
Nursing Reference Center Plus is a comprehensive clinical-decision support resource that provides nurses with critical evidence-based medical information at point-of-care. Evidence is evaluated and distilled into easy to read structured summaries and guidelines that aid nurses in informed and quick clinical decision making. The core of the database includes evidence-based care sheets, evidence-based patient education handouts, and evidence-based quick lessons for nursing procedures.

The database's other online features include nursing reference books, legal cases, diagnostic tests, point-of-care drug information, medical illustrations, links to practice guidelines from The National Guideline Clearinghouse, research instruments, and continuing education materials.

Borrowing a Title:

After selecting a title from the Library's OverDrive website, you will be required to log in to borrow the title. For Baylor Scott & White Health patrons, please select Baylor Scott & White Health - North Texas from dropdown list. Ovid MEDLINE
MEDLINE is the authoritative bibliographic database of The National Library of Medicine, delivering comprehensive scientific records to articles in the life and biomedical sciences from 1950 to the present. The coverage of material is extensive and international in scope.

The database provides users with over 16 million citations to articles from over 4,000 academic journals in medicine, the basic sciences, nursing, dentistry, history of medicine, and health services research. The database also includes access to PREM. Citations and abstracts are categorized according to the NLM MeSH system for easy retrieval.

The OVID MEDLINE search interface allows users to focus and limit searches, and automatically map to NLM subject headings. An evidence-based medicine search limiter searches MEDLINE, DARE, ACP Journal Club, and Cochrane for EBM literature.

Ovid's In-Process and Other Non-Indexed Citations (PREM)
Ovid's PREM is a database of in-process and non-indexed MEDLINE citations from the National Library of Medicine. PREM provides basic bibliographic information and abstracts to records before they are indexed with MeSH headings and added as complete citations to MEDLINE.

Coverage of material is similar to that of MEDLINE, encompassing literature from Index Medicus, Index to Dental Literature, International Nursing and other sources in the life and biomedical sciences.

Oxford English Dictionary (OED)
The Oxford English Dictionary (OED) is generally viewed as the recognized expert on the English language. It contains the meaning, history and pronunciation of 600,000 words along with 3 million quotations and over 1000 years of English. The OED differs from most dictionaries in that the historical meanings of words can be found along with present day meanings.

Play Index

PolicyMap
PolicyMap has a wealth of data that can be useful for a Community Health Needs Assessment (CHNA) or other work in the public health realm.  This includes data concerning physical health, infant and maternal health, uninsured populations, various federal programs, and the location of health facilities such as hospitals and FQHCs.  In addition, the tool includes a broad array of data related to social determinants of health, such as demographics, income, healthy food access, the economy, housing, public transportation, etc.
Primary Search
Primary Search was created specifically for elementary school libraries. It contains thousands of full text articles from the most popular children’s magazines, easy-to-read encyclopedic entries written specifically for children and over a million images of photos, maps and flags.

MEDLINE is the authoritative bibliographic database of The National Library of Medicine, delivering comprehensive scientific records to articles in the life and biomedical sciences from 1950 to the present. The coverage of material is extensive and international in scope.

MEDLINE is the principal component of PubMed's search service system. PubMed provides free access to PreMEDLINE, OLDMEDLINE, MEDLINE, and also includes in-process and out of scope citations. PubMed provides users with over 19 million citations to articles from over 5,000 academic journals in medicine, the basic sciences, nursing, dentistry, history of medicine, and health services research. In addition, the search engine links to NLM's integrated molecular biology databases.

The PubMed search interface allows users to limit and focus searches. Citations and abstracts are categorized according to the NLM MeSH system for easy retrieval. An evidence-based medicine search limiter pulls systematic reviews, controlled clinical trials, and practice guidelines from the database. Evidence-based literature may also be retrieved through PubMed's Clinical Queries feature.

Pubmed Central
PubMed Central is an open-access digital archive of full-text journals in the biomedical and life sciences from the US National Institutes of Health (NIH). Free and unrestricted access to biomedical literature is the objective of the database.

Some journals may delay release of their full-text issues in the database for a certain period of time after publication.
Race Relations Abstracts
Race Relation Abstracts is a database that centers on relationships between and among races. This database provides abstracts from the top academic journals, books, periodicals and newspapers in the field. There are more than 77,000 records going back to 1903. Included subjects are ethnic studies, discrimination, immigration studies, ideology, community relations, ethnic relations, radicalism, economics, cultural identity and pressure groups. 
Regional Business News
A full-bodied database that offers the greatest coverage for full-text business publications for the U.S. and Canada. The Regional Business News database covers stories such as presidential candidates, franchise restaurants, the retail industry, business planning, or political participation. The main resources include newspapers, radio and television news transcripts, trade publications, magazines and newswires with full-text content that covers more than 22 years. 
Rehabilitation Reference Center
Rehabilitation Reference Center is a comprehensive clinical-decision support resource that provides rehabilitation professionals with critical evidence-based medical information at point-of-care.

ScienceDirect is Elsevier's full-text scientific literature database, providing users access to an extensive collection of authoritative titles in the physical sciences, engineering, life sciences, medicine, social sciences, and humanities. The online resource currently contains over 25% of the world’s scientific literature.

Medical literature is drawn from a number of reputable sources including journals such as Lancet, reference books, handbooks, and book series.

Materials may be easily searched on the ScienceDirect platform by specific title, publication type, or subject. Researchers may also search all these sources simultaneously via basic keyword seaching.
Scientific American Medicine
A comprehensive professional medical database which provides practicing clinicians and students with detailed and up-to-date medical information.
Scientific American Surgery
Scientific American Surgery provides practicing surgeons and students with comprehensive and up-to-date surgical information including cutting-edge reporting to incorporate relevant articles into the surgical database.
Scopus
Scopus is the world's largest bibliographic database of research literature and web resources. The database provides records to articles in the biomedical, life, and social sciences. Coverage is comprehensive and extensive in scope with the database containing all journals currently indexed in both MEDLINE and EmBase. Scopus is updated daily.

A noted feature of the database allows users to easily view the number of times an article is cited and connect to its cited references. Other online tools include a journal analyzer that comparatively graphs the number of articles published and total number of citations among other measurable journal impact factors.
Short Story Index
Short Story Index is a database for readers looking for short stories by author or genre and for those studying the body of work of a certain literary figure. It provides detailed indexing of more than 147,000 stories from over 6,900 collections and anthologies dating back to 1984.
Small Business Reference Center
 
Small Business Reference Center is a database that offers comprehensive instructions on small business topics such as buying and selling a business, managing employees, writing business plans, understanding legal information and more. There are more than 400 full-text periodicals, 450 full-text reference books and over 630 business videos. Features include state-specific resources, business basics, start-up kit and business plans and industry information by small business type.
Small Engine Repair Reference Center
Small Engine Repair Reference Center (SERRC) offers comprehensive yet user-friendly repair guides for all types of small engines. SERRC provides help with routine maintenance along with extensive repairs. Users can search by product, type, brand, model/engine type, specific area of model/engine type and model numbers. There’s information from over 500 reference books on over 25 years of engine models and over 90,000 types of repairs.

 
Social Work Reference Center
This social work reference tool is designed for clinical professionals dedicated to improving patient quality of life. STAT!Ref Medicine is a cross-searchable database of clinical, pharmacological, nursing, dentistry and nutrition reference book titles, and integrated evidence-based resources. The database functions as a comprehensive online clinical support tool for the assessment and treatment of patients by healthcare professionals.

Search results are organized for easy retrieval according to medical code, point-of-care, patient information, medical discipline, and drug information subject headings. Patient education materials concerning conditions and drugs are provided by the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP) Conditions A-Z and Detailed Drug Information for the Consumer respectively.

Texas Digital Sanborn Maps
Texas Digital Sanborn Maps provides detailed property and land-use records that portray the grid of everyday life for over 12,000 U.S. towns and cities. Within this database there are city directories, photographs, small-scale maps, census records, genealogies and statistical data.
Texas Reference Center
Texas Reference Center was created especially for school and public libraries. It provides several different sources of information on Texas history. The database has 30 full text periodicals, 100 full text references, several Texas newspapers, and other content related to the state of Texas. 
TexShare
You can access several of the library's databases off campus through Texshare, the Texas library consortium. You must have a library card in order to get the Texshare UserID/Password needed for access.
Thieme Electronic Book Library
Thieme Electronic Book Library is a cross-searchable online collection of full-text health-science reference books.

TOXNET is an aggregated collection of fourteen databases on toxicology, hazardous chemicals, environmental health, and toxic releases. The online resource allows users to simultaneously search multiple databases through a uniform interface. Twentieth-Century Poetry Collections is comprised of American and English poetry. Twentieth-Century American Poetry covers more than 300 of the most important and analyzed poets and over 52,000 works. The database contains the works of the most important twentieth-century American poets starting with the traditionalists, continuing through the modernists and moving on to the contemporary works of the 1990’s. Twentieth-Century English Poetry contains the poetry of over 280 poets from 1900 to the present day.

Web of Science is composed of three major citation indices covering the sciences, social sciences, and arts & humanities. The database provides researchers quick access to scholarly information from a large number of high-impact journals, books, and conference proceedings.

Web of Science includes an analysis tool that allows users to rank, analyze, and sort records retrieved in a search. Other value added features of the database include author and citation reference searching capabilities.
